Skipper Bob Cruising the NY Canal System

Excellent book for amenities and navigation suggestions along the Erie and Champlain Canals. This book is not for navigation but has some great tips and highlights of things to do and stay along the way. Highly recommend!

Great planning guide

We are planning to do the Erie Canal all the way to Lake Erie. We used Skipper Bobs when planning our great loop but gave them away. Repurchased for this trip. Great tool

Skipper Bob's helpful canal guide

This is a much needed companion to the NYS Canal Corporation Cruising Guide, which is 20 years old and has not been updated. Current information on docking and amenities is important when there are so few options on the canal in some areas. I recommend it for anyone traveling on the canal system.

Great Guide

The guide is very helpful. We will be transiting the Erie Canal in a few weeks and having studied the guide, now confident that we can handle it and have a great time

Lot of work

Captain Bob took fabulous notes and the publishers have done a wonderful job of putting it out there. Can’t imagine doing this trip without the guide.

Great Book!

I am doing a trip to move a new to me sailboat from Lake Champlain to the ocean. This book has provided me with accurate information on where to get my mast stepped, and put back up, where to dock for free, and what to expect. This information is worth way more than the modest price. Thank you so much for providing this service!

Informative and helpful

Nicely organized, opposite to our direction of travel, but that still works. The overview is invaluable for planning purposes. A lot of interesting history of the Canal System as well as good tips and tricks for navigating the canals.

Helpful Book!

The book is great and chock full of information for ALL the NYS canals (not just Erie). It covers history and tourist-type info, mile markers and buoy-age to keep an eye on as you boat down the canal (as well as the free tie-up walls, etc.). If you're going to buy one, order it early though as I had some issues with the USPS being pretty late in finally getting it to me - I ordered it as a two-day delivery, and it took over a week.
