Spain Country Flag

Vessels sailing under the Spain Country Flag are required to have on board this flag as part of flag state requirements that derive from maritime regulations in the International Code of Signals and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. These codes are published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as an ongoing effort to reinforce maritime safety procedures and communications to the international maritime community. Fleet management companies and ship owners are responsible to ensure that each vessel in their respective fleets have the appropriate flag signage onboard to be in compliance. This flag is used to identify the flag state a vessel is sailing under and to communicate with other vessels under the provisions of the International Code of Signals.

The Spain Country Flag is represented as a series of three horizontal stripes. Two red stripes, one on bordering the top and the other bordering the bottom sandwich a yellow stripe that is double their width. The Spanish Coat Of Arms adorns the flag and is aligned left of center, squarely in the yellow stripe. Atop the Coat Of Arms lies the Spanish Royal Crown. The Coat Of Arms is defined as a shield with four quadrants and a blue circular symbol in the middle. The quadrants contain a castle tower on the upper left, a blue lion on the upper right, yellow and red vertical stripes on the lower left and an oval, spoked design on the lower right. Two Promontories rise, one to either side of the shield and a red ribbon is loosely wrapped around each, tying them together. These represent Gibralter and Ceuta, the Pillars of Hercules. The yellow strip is meant to represent generosity, while the red stripes dignify bravery, strength and hardiness. The Spain Country Flag has dimensions of 2:3, height to length.
