Vessels sailing under the Bermuda Country Flag are required to have on board this flag as part of flag state requirements that derive from maritime regulations in the International Code of Signals and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. These codes are published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as an ongoing effort to reinforce maritime safety procedures and communications to the international maritime community. Fleet management companies and ship owners are responsible to ensure that each vessel in their respective fleets have the appropriate flag signage onboard to be in compliance. The Bermuda Coat Of Arms is a classically designed green and white shield. This official Coat Of Arms depicts the 1609 shipwreck of the Bermuda ship Sea Venture, displayed on an elaborately designed shield that is held by a red lion. A blue sea, white background and blue sky adorn the depiction of the ship sinking about a mile off the Bermuda coastline. The flag is proportionally designed with dimensions of 1:2, height to length. Etiquette in displaying the Bermuda Country Flag dictates an order of precedence strictly directed as the National Flag of Berumda, State Flag of Bermuda, Military Flag of Bermuda and then follows any other Flag of Bermuda which may be appropriately displayed thereafter.
