Vessels sailing under the Bahamas country flag are required to have on board this flag as part of flag state requirements that derive from maritime regulations in the International Code of Signals and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. These codes are published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as an ongoing effort to reinforce maritime safety procedures and communications to the international maritime community. Fleet management companies and ship owners are responsible to ensure that each vessel in their respective fleets have the appropriate flag signage onboard to be in compliance. This flag is used to identify the flag state a vessel is sailing under and to communicate with other vessels under the provisions of the International Code of Signals.

The national flag of the Bahamas is a representation of the people of Bahamas and the country at large. Originally the Bahamian flag had a blue stripe surrounded by the two yellow stripes. The patterns and colors were reversed after the Bahamian flag was rejected. Today, the flag of Bahamas is rectangular in shape. It consists of three colors. The colors of the flag symbolize regional, political and cultural meanings. It has a black equilateral triangle, three horizontal stripes that are equal in size; one middle horizontal stripes of golden yellow while the remaining two parallel lines are of aquamarine color. The black equilateral triangle on the left represents unity, force, strength and determination of Bahamian people. Natural resources and the sand of the island beaches are symbolized by the yellow color. The aquamarine stripes on the top and the bottom are a representation of the sea that surrounds the nation of the Bahamas. Often, the flag of Bahamas is as a symbol of convenience by the foreign merchants hence it’s for the use of or in national occasions.
