Mobile Facilities (volume III) is intended to be carried on board rescue units, aircraft and vessels to help with performance of a search, rescue or on-scene coordinator function and with aspects of SAR that pertain to their own emergencies.
What’s it for?
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) jointly published the three-volume IAMSAR Manual to provide guidelines for a common aviation and maritime approach to organizing and providing search and rescue (SAR) services.
Why is it needed?
IAMSAR Manual Volume III: Mobile Facilities by IMO is required to be carried abroad rescue units, aircraft, and all vessels to help with performance of a search, rescue or on-scene coordinator function and with aspects of Search-And-Rescue that pertain to their own emergencies.
Who does the IAMSAR Manual Volume III apply to?
The 2019 edition incorporated amendments adopted by ICAO and approved by the IMO Maritime Safety Committee. It applies to all mariners and every ships to have each volume which can be used as a stand-alone document or in conjunction with the other two volumes, as a means to attain a full view of the SAR system.
Who needs to have the IAMSAR Manual Volume III?
IMO Circular MSC-MEPC.2/Circ.2 provides guidance on the requirement for ships to carry an up-to-date copy of Volume III of the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (IAMSAR) Manual.
