IICL: Guide for Flatrack Container Inspection
IICL issues this Guide for Flatrack Container Inspection to provide a reference for those involved in the inspection and repair of flatrack containers. The Guide includes criteria for determining if a flatrack requires repair and recommends repair procedures for individual components. In addition, the manual describes flatrack construction, usage and lifting requirements, and provides numerous diagrams of flatrack types, individual components and correct and incorrect lifting methods. Typical flatrack damage is illustrated by color photographs interspersed throughout the tables of inspection criteria in Section 3. Also included is a glossary of terminology.
The purpose of any inspection is to identify conditions that may be unsafe or which may reduce the usefulness or life of the equipment. Repairs should restore structural integrity to the flatrack, so that it may function safely in worldwide intermodal transportation.
The specific manuals published by owners and manufacturers should also be on hand to supplement this Guide. In case of conflict between IICL's and owner's instructions, the owner's instructions should take precedence.
