This publication provides a summary of astronomical events. It is published several years in advance and contains much of Section A of the corresponding Astronomical Almanac. This publication includes phases of the Moon, eclipses of the Sun and Moon, principal occulations, planetary phenomena, elongations and magnitudes of the planets, times of sunrise/set, moonrise/set. Also tabulated are the equation of time, the declination of the Sun and the Greenwich hour angles of the pole stars Polaris and Sigma Octantis.
Astronomical Phenomena 2023 is now available - It contains information found in Section A of the Astronomical Almanac two years ahead. In addition to Calendarial data, there is information on eclipses, planetary phenomena and magnitudes, sun and moon rise/set times, the equation of time and the declination of the Sun and positional information on Polaris and sigma Octantis. It is aimed at those wishing to have advance knowledge of astronomical events occurring during 2023.
I've purchased and used copies of the "US Naval Observatory's Nautical Almanac Office & Her Majesty's Nautical Almanac Office" joint publication: Astronomical Phenomena for the Year - - - - for decades. I watch the US Government Printing Office website "like a hawk," to ensure getting a copy every year, but the past two years that has not worked. I found a copy of the 2024 edition at a retailer in the U.K. last year and bought it from them (for US $30) it retails in the US for $14). In desperation again this year, I looked around and found American Nautical Services. They had the 2025 edition for $19.95. I didn't blink, but bought a copy in a heartbeat!! Better still, the publication arrived three days later. Sweet! Thank your American Nautical Services - for having the product I needed (desperately) and getting it into my hands in a flash!
