This tabulated logbook is designed for radar recording. It provides guidance on logbook completion together with an example of a correctly completed operational log.
Produced in accordance with:
- SOLAS Chapter V, Regulations 19.2.3 and 19.2.4 - Carriage requirements for radar installations
- ISM Code Sections 7, 10.1, 10.2 and 11 to demonstrate radar operability, defect conrol and navigational records
- IMO Resolution MSC.192(79) - 'Revised recommendation on performance standards for radar equipment'
Detailed Overview
This Radar Logbook provides a systematic record of radar performance monitoring, testing, maintenance, defect reporting, and repair for the ship's navigational radar systems. It supports compliance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974, as amended, Chapter V, and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
Systematic use of this Radar Logbook enables the Master and navigating officers to:
- Demonstrate compliance with SOLAS Chapter V requirements by providing objective evidence that radar systems are regularly tested, performance monitored, and maintained in efficient working order
- monitor equipment performance trends and support predictive maintenance, identifying gradual degradation before complete system failure occurs
- record equipment status for incident investigation, insurance claims, and due diligence purposes, including a contemporaneous record of radar performance at the time of any navigational casualty
- maintain evidence that radar equipment remains in serviceable condition consistent with its performance standards.
