Cape Verde Country Flag

Vessels sailing under the Cape Verde Country Flag are required to have on board this flag as part of flag state requirements that derive from maritime regulations in the International Code of Signals and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. These codes are published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as an ongoing effort to reinforce maritime safety procedures and communications to the international maritime community. Fleet management companies and ship owners are responsible to ensure that each vessel in their respective fleets have the appropriate flag signage onboard to be in compliance. This flag is used to identify the flag state a vessel is sailing under and to communicate with other vessels under the provisions of the International Code of Signals.

The Cape Verde Country Flag was adopted in 1992. The Flag has a deep blue background, and is bisected by a white stripe with a red stripe centered inside. Ten yellow, five pointed stars form a circle that is off set from the center, reaching from the blue top portion of background to the lower portion of blue background. The Cape Verde Country Flag is designated to have a proportional ratio of 3:5, height to length, respectively. The Blue color is meant to represent the Atlantic ocean, while the ten golden stars depict the ten islands that define the country of Cape Verde. The white stripe represents peace, while the red bar running through it recognizes economic progress.
